Lesson 11: 日本の大学生

きょかさんは子どもの時ケーキやささん(cake baker)になりたかったです。アメリカに住みたがっています。えいごを勉強しますから。それから、ペットをかったことがあります。ねこです。名前はまめです。そして、日本の大学生はなつ休みやはる休みに友だちと旅行に行ったり、アルバイトをしたりします。

I thought it was really interesting how as a kid, Kyoka wanted to work and design cakes. When I interviewed her, I was expecting a more common occupation like a teacher, nurse etc. I also thought it was really cool that she has a cat. I prefer dogs, but cats aren't bad either.

Lesson 10: 日本とアメリカ

まりいさんは今年のお正月はおせち（Japanese Historical Food)をたべるつもりです。日本人はお正月にたいていじんじゃ(shrine)とおまいり(pray)をすると言っていました。まりいさんは日本の天気のほうがすきです。あつすぎずさむすぎないからです。そして、ゆでたまご(boiled egg)がいちばんだいきらいです。まずいからです。

I thought it was really funny and interesting how Marii doesn't like boiled eggs. They are sooo GOOD!!! I also thought it was interesting how on New Years Day, Japanese eat historical food. I don’t think in my culture we have specific food we eat （that we already don't eat on a regular daily basis.), so learning about that was really cool.

Lesson 9: 高校の時

あみ・なつめさんは高校の時、たのしかったと言っていました。たくさん友だちできた。そして、きゅどぶ(Japanese Archery Club)でした。
あみさんは高校の時８：３０AMにはじまって、４：００PMにおわると言っていました。べんきょうするのがきらいだったと言っていました。Mathがきらいでした。むずかしかったと言っていましたから。でも、Japanese Historyがすきでした。たのしかったと言っていました。
それから、しゅくだいはほとんどない。アルバイトもしませんでした。
高校の時、しゅうまつはたいていきゅどにいってと言っていました。高校の時ではきびしいをしてもよかったと言っていました。
高校の時カラオケにいったと言っていました。カラオケがだいすきでした。よくカラオケにいってと言っていました。

After the interview, I learned that Japanese schools have very different regulations and rules. Compare to the US, they are more strict and well grounded. They have to wear uniform, which I wish we did at times (just to save us the trouble of finding something to wear), and they aren't allowed to color their hair, or put on make up. This surprised me because I've always known Japan to be famous for it's crazy and creative fashion style, hair style and make up style. So to learn that they weren't able to wear make up or color their hair is very interesting.
